Championship Bracket Information

The Baseball Brackets Regional Championships are being voted on right now with the most popular teams in each class/level being announced next Wednesday night. That's not the end of the first ever Baseball Brackets though as we still need to decide the overall most popular team in all of Minor League and Independent baseball.

The Championship Bracket will do just that. The bracket will consist of the eight Regional Champions who will be seeded 1 - 8 based on the average number of votes each received per round. The team with the highest average number of votes per round will obviously be seeded #1, with the lowest being seeded #8. We decided to base the seeding on average number of votes, instead of total votes, since some teams received first-round byes and thus competed in one less game. The voting dates for the three-round tournament are:

Elite Eight: Thursday, April 16 - Monday, April 20
  • #1 Seed vs. #8 Seed
  • #4 Seed vs. #5 Seed
  • #3 Seed vs. #6 Seed
  • #2 Seed vs. #7 Seed
Final Four: Tuesday, April 21 - Saturday, April 25

Overall Baseball Brackets Championship: Sunday, April 26 - Thursday, April 30

2009 Baseball Brackets

Every year around this time baseball magazines and websites create their own baseball-themed version of March Madness. Some brackets try to figure out which organization has the best mascot, while others try to see what the best nickname or logo is. Let's be honest though: no matter what the competition, it's a popularity contest. So we at BaseballPosts.com decided to have a popularity contest of our own, literally.

Over the next month or so, we are not only going to find out the most popular team in every class/level, but the most popular team in Minor League and Independent baseball overall. It will be up to you to spread the word to rack up the most votes for your team in each round. Obviously the team with the most votes in the head-to-head matchups in each round advance.

We have organized the 223 teams into the following 8 regions:
  • AAA Region
  • AA Region
  • A-Advanced Region
  • A Region
  • A-Short Season Region
  • Rookie Region
  • Independent East Region
  • Independent West Region
The teams have been seeded based on the city population that their stadium is in, with a few exceptions. An example of an exception is that while the Charlotte Knights play their home games in Fort Mill, South Carolina, we seeded them based on the city size of Charlotte, North Carolina.

We also know that one of the big questions is going to be "why didn't we just seed the teams based on 2008 attendance numbers." Basically, that would have saved debate, and we don't want that! One of the best parts of March Madness is complaining about how your favorite team should have gotten a higher seed. Have at it.

You can see the complete brackets by clicking on the links on the right side of this page. Here is the complete tournament schedule as well:

1st Round: Thursday, March 19 - Tuesday, March 24
Sweet 16: Wednesday, March 25 - Monday, March 30
Elite 8: Tuesday, March 31 - Saturday, April 4
Final 4: Sunday, April 5 - Thursday, April 9
Region Championships: Friday, April 10 - Wednesday, April 15

After the most popular teams in each class/level are determined on April 15, we will create a Championship Bracket and seed the Region/Class Champions 1-8 based on the total number of votes each team received throughout the entire tournament. This Championship Bracket will determine the overall most popular team in all of Minor League and Independent baseball. The dates for this 3-round Championship Bracket will be released closer to April 15.
